Weather conditions during the breeding season were generally favourable, although it was cooler than usual.

Breeding conditions:

Numbers of Arctic Foxes were low: tracks of a few nomadic foxes and only one inhabited den was found. Single nomad Snowy Owls were observed, and several Pomarine and Long-tailed Skua nests were found. Breeding success of waders was presumably no higher than average and very few broods were observed between 10-15 August.
 

Rodent dynamics:

Lemming numbers in late June in the Byrranga foothills were average, on the coast they were much lower. A decline in numbers was recorded in August. Lemming index 10.
